MBA 612: Securing the Network

Overview

This course reviews fundamental concerns for technical security from the implementer's perspective. There are many factors that affect planning and budgeting of technical security measures. This area of study includes firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, auditing, communications security, and encryption. Students will gain knowledge of compliance requirements and best practices for securing company networks with the appropriate technologies that need to be applied to fit your business environment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the primary methods of network attack, how they impact your organization, and how to protect against them.
  • Explain how security architecture can support the security posture through effective implementation of firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Implement and manage malicious code protection software, and explain how technology hardware and software can work together to better protect against future attacks.
  • Apply basic technical security concepts to the current state of security within an organization using a layered security model.
