BC 681: Capstone Experience

Overview

This course provides the opportunity for an integration of previous courses where the student will be expected to analyze and synthesize past learning and relate it to issues and problems in Business Communication. Course requirements are able to be tailored to meet a student’s specific career plan or focus. The course is intended to provide for the opportunity for students to engage in action research to produce a major project and make a public presentation to the JIU community via Webcasting technology. Modules for the class will focus on assisting students in discussing project planning, progress, problems, and peer review processes. The capstone course integrates coursework, knowledge, skills, experiential learning and action research to demonstrate mastery of learning for both employability and for further career development. Academic advisor permission required for registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Work independently on applied research projects
  • Produce an independent business communications project
  • Acquire advanced management abilities and acuity pertaining to business communications
  • Evaluate and process learning: formulate similarities, draw distinctions, synthesize concepts, be flexible, and create new ideas
  • Develop an informed sense of action research design and production and to use a variety of forms of mediated communication effectively
