BC 322: Business Presentations

Overview

This course will enable students to develop business presentation skills for creating and delivering clear and focused presentations that achieve business objectives. You’ll learn the importance of developing strong business presentation skills and receive guidelines for developing and presenting to a variety of audiences, both inside and outside the organization.

The course progresses through the steps needed for developing and delivering a successful business presentation: defining its goals and structure, analyzing the audience, enhancing the presentation with visual aids including PowerPoint, preparation techniques, and anticipation of audience reaction.

Strong emphasis is given to developing and facilitating online presentations when audience members are in different locations, along with selecting a presentation technology appropriate for your objectives and audience. You’ll also study how to utilize your individual communication skills in a team environment while building on the synergy of the group’s interests and talents.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define the status of your speaking skills and your current technological
  • Describe the different presentation types (proposals, briefings, training) and goals of business presentations (to inform, to persuade, to motivate).
  • Analyze the audience and plan a presentation appropriate for it.
  • Determine the appropriate technology environment for a presentation based on an analysis of its audience and objectives.
  • Organize and develop presentation content.
  • Enhance, enrich, and enliven a presentation with appropriate use of visual aids, PowerPoint, and other support materials.
  • Prepare for your speech by rehearsing and anticipating audience reaction.
  • Combine your communication skills with a team to develop and deliver a presentation.

Course Requirements

You will need Microsoft PowerPoint for creating your presentations. Additionally, you will need a microphone for recording narrations of your slides and a webcam.
