BBA 211: Introduction to Management

Estimated Hours Per Week: 5

Overview

Exactly what do managers do?

Many managers used to perform tasks assigned to them without any formal training. But today’s managers are the visionaries of the company. They strive to push the company into a better position for employees, customers, and other stakeholders.

Managers act upon the company’s strategic goals and plans, take into account issues regarding diversity, and establish the culture of the company. Managers are often the entrepreneurs of a company. They lead the way on social responsibility and act upon control mechanisms that keep an organization running smoothly. A manager’s responsibilities are as diverse as the population of the company.

In this course, you will explore all of these responsibilities through Forum discussions with your peers and by putting together a management plan for a specific organization. The management plan consists of sections on management processes, business ethics, diversity, globalization, planning, controls, organizational structure, organizational culture, and recruitment and retention. The management plan is the major project for this course and makes up 80% of your course grade.
