BBA 110: History of Business

Overview

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (G. Santayana, “The Life of Reason”,Volume 1, 1905). This thought rings true for the study of modern management as well and so this course delves into the history of American Business starting with colonial days and the early influence of Adam Smith and moving through to the present. This course highlights individuals, businesses, and ideas that have shaped the landscape of modern business.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Examine the evolution of business from the colonial days forward to understand the current state.
  • Develop an appreciation for some of the pioneers who helped shape modern business.
  • Consider what influences are shaping modern business, making informed judgments on the effect they present in personal business environments.
