BA-M 801A: Becoming a Professional Researcher – I

Overview

Throughout this mentoring session, you will be exploring new research methods and analyzing how these methods can be fully utilized in the development and writing of your doctoral project. In a peer-to-peer mentoring model, you will be engaged in a weekly graduate seminar discussion and various team projects that involve the entire cohort. The faculty mentor will provide guidance and feedback to all students.

Creating this “learning community” as quickly as possible provides a strong support system. Research shows this is critical to the successful completion of a doctoral degree program.

This initial mentoring session will be eight weeks in duration, made up of four modules, each two weeks long.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Locate and use a variety of Jones e-global library® databases.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of research using both online and traditional sources.
• Use the Jones e-global library® databases to explore a preliminary research problem or question of interest for the DBA Project topic.
• Demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals of applied research processes and how they are used in the business setting.
• Identify the steps in managing the doctoral project process.
• Prepare personal organizational tools for use in managing and writing a doctoral project.
