Federal Student Loans have distinct advantages over traditional consumer loans:
1) Repayment is deferred on subsidized loans until six months after students have graduated or otherwise left school, and
2) Interest rates are historically lower than those of conventional lenders. For 2006-2007, the in-repayment interest rate on the federal loans available to JIU students is 6.8%.
In addition, undergraduates with financial need may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant while pursuing their baccalaureate degrees. To review the types of available federal student aid, click here.
